It has been a privilege to serve as the Member of Parliament for Manchester Gorton since 2017.
I previously served as a Member of the European Parliament for the North West from 2014-2017, as Manchester City Councillor from 2000-2015 and Lord Mayor of Manchester 2005-2006. I have worked as a labourer in a cotton mill, a bus driver and a police officer, before returning to education as a mature student to train as a solicitor.
I am a proud trades unionist, and a member of GMB and Unison.
I have always put the people of Manchester Gorton first, and always will. I promise to carry on working hard to support everyone who lives in our area and represent their issues in Parliament.
Many of them have been devastatingly impacted by the last 12 years of Conservative chaos, mismanagement, and huge spending cuts. This is why we desperately need a Labour Government to build a better country for working people and put the country right.
At the next election, we have a once in a generation chance to rebuild and transform our country.
