Personal Statement

I was born and brought up in Brecon in a working-class family. My mum was a school dinner lady and my dad was in the army. I went to local schools and then worked in health and social care. My great uncle Ken was one of the Shrewsbury 24, campaigning all his life for justice so Labour and Trade Union politics were part of everyday life in our house.

I became a Town Councillor in 2008, serving as the youngest Mayor of Brecon, and then was elected as a County Councillor in 2012. I’ve been re-elected at every election since, increasing my vote each time through my record of hard work. In 2022, I became the first Labour Deputy Leader of Powys Council, also serving as the Council’s Armed Forces Champion. I’m proud of my record as an elected councillor, delivering a new Flying Start Centre in my community, the Real Living Wage for council staff and a new council house building programme.

Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe is a fantastic area, and it’s a real honour to be Labour candidate for my home constituency. For the last fourteen years our area has been let down by the UK Government, with families facing the biggest hit to living standards on record. Bad Tory choices have inflicted misery and a cost of living crisis. It’s time for change. Labour has a plan to get Britain’s future back and I will be a hardworking local MP at the service of our communities.
