Personal Statement

I am proud to be standing to be the Labour MP for the area I was born and have lived all my life. Bridgwater, Burnham and the surrounding villages have long been under represented in Westminster, I aim to change that.
I have worked hard as a local community champion & Councillor for more than 30 years in unions and councils.
I believe that Bridgwater with the surrounding towns and villages really is the beating heart of Somerset.
My parents worked hard to bring up 3 children. When my Dad passed away young, we were brought up by our Mum, at a time when the Tories were attacking single mums.
I lived through the 80’s, through Thatcher’s Britain. I grew up with a Tory Government that waged war on its own people.
All of this has made me the person I am: a fighter, a socialist, a diplomat, an effective campaigner for local people.
As leader of the Labour group on Somerset council, I have been able to work to make our voice heard, under my leadership Labour has impacted the residents of Somerset in a positive way.

My commitments to you if elected are:-
A HARD WORKING & APPROACHABLE MP. It will be my full time job.

BRIDGWATER, BURNHAM & SURROUNDING VILLAGES FIRST. I will bring people together to help our community thrive.

TAKING YOUR CONCERNS TO WESTMINSTER. Our voices need to be heard in parliament. I will make sure this happens.

Bridgwater needs an MP truly grounded in our community. We need a Bridgwater voice in Westminster not another voice of Westminster in Bridgwater.
