Candidate statement: Cliff Waterman, the Labour Party candidate This election is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make Britain better for everyone. I'm standing for Labour so that as your MP we have a strong voice in shaping that bright future. I'm local. I've lived and worked in Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding area for thirty five years. I'm from a strong working class background. I'm proud that I was the first person in my family to go to university. I've been guided by strong family values of respect, fairness and decency. And I believe that our children deserve a better future than their parents had. I'm not a career politician, but I believe we must do things differently. The same old out-of-touch Conservatives can't be allowed to muck things up any longer. Instead, I want us to have a world class NHS again. I want education to be properly funded. I want good public services. I think giant corporations should pay fair taxes, and tax havens should be shut down.
I want to ensure we have a strong and enduring relationship with the EU. I want a second referendum where there's a choice between a good deal and remain. But most of all, I want to tackle the climate crisis. Labour's green industrial revolution will do that, aiming at making Britain carbon neutral by 2030. We'll create 400,000 good jobs in the green energy sector. We'll ensure we have a fair transition to a sustainable future. And we'll make sure every home is warm and fit to live in. The choice is clear: we can have more chaos under an untrustworthy Conservative government. Or we can have a transformational Labour government that will modernise Britain.
We're a people-powered movement.
Be a part of it.
