I am standing to be the next Labour MP for Dudley South. I would be honoured to represent residents as your Member of Parliament. I was born and grew up in the Midlands where my dad ran a business and my mum was a doctor. I lost my brother as a teenager and grew up in Thatcher’s Britain. The backdrop of industrial action and the decimation of the car industry, gave me a passion for addressing injustice, particularly focusing on helping young people facing hard times.
This led me to focus my career on working in the charity sector so that I can help others. I have worked on a wide range of causes, including developing programmes to help young care leavers with mentoring support and employment advice, helping young people with cancer, and working to eradicate homophobic bullying in our schools. Until March 2019 I was CEO of UpRising, an organisation dedicated to supporting young people from under-represented backgrounds into power, and I am now running a consultancy, ChangeOut, tackling issues of diversity and representation in the voluntary sector.
The Black Country faces so many challenges and yet has so much potential. The community here is buzzing with life. But cuts to public services, rising crime, climate change and uncertainty about Brexit are hurting us all. My values were shaped from an early age and I have carried these values with me as a charity worker and as a local councillor. Whilst I currently live in London, my Midlands roots are strong and I have family and friends throughout the area. I have seen how Brexit is dividing our communities, putting local jobs, opportunities and businesses at risk and I will never vote for anything that I believe will make Dudley South residents to be poorer.
The people of Dudley South need a Labour MP and a Labour government to ensure investment is put back into our schools, our hospitals, our police service and our children’s futures.
I have the dedication, passion and integrity to make a very strong constituency MP who will work closely with community leaders and councillors to ensure public services and local interests are put first.
Through my years of charity work and in local politics, people tell me time and again how powerless and vulnerable they feel. As the MP for Dudley South, I would be your champion.
We're a people-powered movement.
Be a part of it.
