Personal Statement

I couldn’t be prouder to be from Norfolk. I grew up in one of the county’s small villages and went to the local comprehensive school. Norwich is my home and I know what a brilliant place it is. But our community has been let down, just as the country has.

I’ve been lucky enough to have a good state education, a good job and good health. Everyone deserves those things in a prosperous society. This isn’t the reality in Norwich North under the Tories. Many people simply don’t feel better off after over a decade of Conservative Government.

Throughout my life I’ve stood up for hope – for fairness, for dignity, for equality. I’ve spent most of my career in the charity sector where I've campaigned for children’s rights, against hunger, poverty and inequality. Wherever, I’ve lived I’ve been active in my community – I’ve been a Labour councillor, a school governor, a Hospital Trust governor and during Covid I volunteered at a food bank delivering parcels.

Since becoming your candidate, I’ve spoken to thousands of you, listening to your experience under this Government and the change you want to see. With people right across our area, I’ve already fought to save our NHS walk-in centre, shone a spotlight on the state of our buses and backed our local businesses.

I will always be on your side. I want to use my skills, and experience to restore trust, hope and opportunity for everyone in Norwich North.

If you live in Norwich North and have any questions or thoughts please do get in touch.
