Police numbers are up and crime is down across Nottinghamshire.
By the end of March 2021, we will have recruited 260 additional officers in just two years.
Numbers are growing faster in Nottinghamshire than nearly anywhere else, with another 100 officers coming in the next 12 months.
I promised to increase police visibility, not just numbers. Every neighbourhood is now benefiting from a proactive policing team as part of Operation Reacher, dedicated to tackling the issues that matter to you.
This has helped deliver a steep reduction in overall crime. There were 21% fewer offences recorded throughout the last year. Violent offences have fallen by 38% whilst burglary is down 34% and violence against a person by 12%.
I know residents are concerned about knife crime. We have brought knife crime down by 11% - bucking national and regional trends. It’s vital that we protect our young people.
We are working hard to tackle violence against women and girls. There are now extra refuge spaces and more funding for support services.
Elderly residents tell me they are worried about crime, so I’m delighted that we are putting more officers on our streets which is cutting crime significantly. There is of course more to do, but I’m on the case and on your side.
