 Rosie Duffield

Rosie Duffield

MP for Canterbury

Having lived and worked in Canterbury for over 20 years and raised my family here, it has been the greatest privilege to have been the Member of Parliament for the past two and a half years.

I am proud of what I have achieved – fighting for our schools and the health service, campaigning on housing and climate change. But there is so much more to do, and I am putting my trust in the people of Canterbury, Whitstable and the Villages to re-elect me at the General Election and allow me to carry on the work that I have started.

Despite their promises, the Conservatives have failed the NHS locally. Labour will put an extra £30 billion into the NHS, and as your MP, I will continue the fight for a properly funded new hospital for Canterbury.

We all know that class sizes are in schools are soaring and funding has been cut back, with total school spending per pupil in England falling 8% in real terms since 2010. We have 235 fewer full-time police officers across Kent than in 2010 – which the Conservatives are not promising to fully replace. Labour will fund extra police officers on our streets, increase funding for our schools and colleges and abolish tuition fees for students.

On the biggest issue facing our Country – Brexit, the Conservatives have failed. They have had three years to negotiate a deal that is acceptable to the British people and have nothing to show for it.

What’s more, Boris Johnson is too frightened to debate his proposal, because he knows it sells out jobs, sells out the NHS and sells out the environment, making it harder to tackle climate change. And, he has shown that he has no respect the British people because he has refused to give us a vote on his deal. Given that so much of our local economy here in Canterbury is reliant on our close links to Europe, whether people voted Leave or Remain, it is right that people are given the opportunity to have a final say on Brexit.

I am standing on my record of standing up for Canterbury, Whitstable and the Villages. I hope that I can count on your support.
