Rt Hon Valerie Vaz MP was elected MP for Walsall South in May 2010 and re-elected in May 2015; June 2017 and December 2019. Valerie was appointed as Shadow Leader of the House (October 2016 - May 2021). Valerie is a member of USDAW.
Valerie is a solicitor and in Parliament has served on the Health Select Committee 2010-15, Regulatory Reform Committee 2010-15 and House of Commons Governance Committee 2014-15; After the 2015 election Valerie served on the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs 2016, Science & Technology 2015-16 Select Committees and appointed by The Speaker to the Panel of Chairs June 2015-16. Valerie is currently a member of the UK-EU Parliamentary Partnership and NATO Parliamentary Assembly. While in Parliament Valerie has published reports on Obesity and Diabetes Programmes in England: Capturing the State of Play in July 2011, 0845 telephone numbers; Instruments on Planes and a Glossary of Climate Change.
Before becoming an MP, Valerie was a Councillor in the London Borough of Ealing from 1986-90 and contested Twickenham in 1987 and the European Elections in 1999 (East Midlands List).
In October 2019 Valerie was appointed a member of HM Most Honourable Privy Council and received a Hon Doctor of Laws from the University of West London.
