Personal Statement
From Portobello to Musselburgh to Princes St Gardens, I love Edinburgh, and want to serve the people who live here. I've seen first-hand the damage the Conservatives are doing to our country, when working as a civil servant. As much as people are fed up with politics, standing for election is the only way to make a difference.
I’ve worked throughout my career to help the most vulnerable. I currently work to support victims of human trafficking. I see first-hand the cruelty of the Home Office and austerity on Scotland’s poorest people. I’ve been chair of a charity giving life-saving grants to destitute people. Previously, I also worked on migration policy at the British Embassy in Paris, working on securing the Dover-Calais border.
I grew up in the south side of Glasgow, and went to the local school, Shawlands Academy – Scotland’s most diverse school. A few excellent teachers inspired and encouraged me, and thanks to their efforts I went on to study at Oxford University, the London School of Economics and Harvard University.
