I currently work improving social care services – care homes and care at home – for a Wales-wide organisation based in Wrexham. Previously I ran a UK-wide charity running maths competitions and summer schools for secondary school children and back in the 1990s I ran the successful parliamentary campaign to keep key sporting events available on free to air television for everyone to enjoy.
I’ve always tried to make a positive difference in whatever I’ve done and that’s what I want to do now standing up for people here in Wrexham. It’s not the MPs role to sort everything out – but they can use their position to bring people together for positive change. That’s why my first pledge to you is a Town Centre Summit to tackle homelessness and drug use and create a vibrant town centre that’s on the up and that people want to come into. With a Tory government in Westminster cutting funding and a Tory/Independent Council in Wrexham not putting money where it matters most we’re in a downward spiral. Transport cuts make it harder to get into the Town Centre, so less money is spent there, shops close and jobs are lost. We need change.
I joined the Labour Party as a teenager in Thatcher’s Britain for the same reason I’m standing now: to make the world a better place. We need improved funding to our public services: police, health and education, an economy that works for all and an end to in-work poverty. I want to see improved transport links and a Green New Deal that brings jobs and prosperity to Wrexham.
Since the Brexit referendum we’ve had 3½ years of chaos. The best way forward is to put a deal back to people and let YOU decide. I’m a Labour and Co-operative candidate; the Co-op Party is committed to building a society where wealth and power are shared. Find out more here party.coop/about I’m married to a Welsh speaker and have learned Welsh myself: winning the prose trophy in the 2018 Eisteddfod y Dysgwyr in Llanrwst. We have three children: two students and our eldest working in Greater Manchester. I’m the daughter of an electrician and a secretary and was educated at state schools and studied maths at Oxford.
I’m the only candidate who can stop further Tory damage to our communities and If elected I’ll be a passionate and committed advocate for Wrexham.
We're a people-powered movement.
