Laura Coryton MBE

Laura Coryton MBE

Personal Statement

Laura Coryton was inspired to stand for election in Richmond Park after working closely with former MP Paula Sherriff on her campaign to end the sexist taxation on period products. Her petition gained over 300,000 signatures, and together they successfully lobbied the government into establishing the Tampon Tax Fund through which almost £100m was donated to female-focused charities, and to ending the tax in 2021, saving consumers £15m annually. She realised how much good an MP can do for society and is keen to follow in Sherriff's footsteps by giving Richmond a stronger voice in parliament.

An author and entrepreneur, Laura's first book 'Speak Up' was published by Harper Collins in 2019. For her educational social enterprise, she won the Government's 'Young Innovator Award 2023' and 'Women in Innovation Award 2024'. She was awarded her MBE for services to charitable campaigning in the New Years Honours List 2024.

She is honoured to use her experience to help champion Richmond Park.
